Footage of the construction of the Noordersluis (Northern Lock) in the North Sea Canal in IJmuiden. - overall shot of large construction site with steam excavators, 7"- several shots of a steam excavator scraping the slopes and dumping sand in dumpers, 31" - demolition of houses at the future site of the lock, 8"- overall pan from the beach along the southern head, 22"- making of fascine mattresses, interlacement filled with stones, 8"- demolition of an older part of the mole; large blocks of stone are wrested, hoisted by a steam crane and loaded onto railway wagons, 71". Note: In 1917 the construction of the Noordersluis is started, which is opened in 1930. This lock is the largest of the complex of locks in IJmuiden (the Noordersluis, the Middensluis (Middle Lock), the Zuidersluis (Southern Lock) and the Kleine Sluis (Small Lock)). SOURCE: WP
