A team of seismologists rides across the country to map the underground layers of the earth. The aim is to track down oil and natural gas. A mobil derrick drills holes in the ground; small explosion charges are put into the holes and are then blown up. The underground echo's are registered in an instrument car and interpreted by geologists. The oil field in Schoonebeek has been discovered in this way and is now exploited.
