The Foundation National Merchant Navy Week organises short one day sailing trips at sea for interested people on the occasion of the National Merchant Navy Week. SHOTS: - the coaster "Borneo", the deck packed with people, departs from the harbour of Amsterdam, sails through the North Sea Canal, is locked in by the locks near IJmuiden and heads out to sea; - During the trip the people aboard get a taste of the life of a sailor: there is a boat drill, i.e. lifejackets are handed out and people are told how to use them; The captain explains certain things; the chief mate demonstrates the sextant; one of the women receives instructions on how to use the wheel; - the people see the pilot leave the ship.
