Fifty athletes take part in the 10km race through Paramaribo. Gouvernor Z.E. van Tilburg walks past the participants, after which his wife fires the staring shot. A leading group of five man is formed, later on reduced to two men, but they are outrun by the 19-year-old Ramesh who is the eventual winner.
