Because of the resignation of the socialist ministers, Queen Juliana receives a.o. prof. Pieter Oud, VVD party leader in the House of Representatives, A.D.W. Tilanus of the CHU, Paul de Groot of the official communist party and Henk Gortzak, representative of the communist dissidents at Palace Huis ten Bosch. Several days later the House of Representatives gathers for a meeting to deal with urgent tax proposals. Chairman G.P. Kortenhorst names all the documents, which are then passed after voting, in spite of the protests made by PvdA party leader Jaap Burger. Because of this vote and the absence of Minister of Finance H.J. Hofstra, the socialists leace the room in protest. Because of the absence of the required majority the meeting is adjourned. After the meeting the PvdA members hold a meeting in a room, a.o. the resigned ministers J.G. Suurhoff, Hofstra and Ivo Samkalden, resigned Prime Minister dr. Willem Drees, the resigned State Secretaries M. van Veen and dr. A.A. van Rhijn, Burger and party chairman E.A. Vermeer. Elsewhere the members of the KVP hold a meeting, with a.o. party leader prof. C.P.M. Romme, Kortenhorst, party chairman H.W. van Doorn and former Minister Ch. Welter. Also prof. L.J.M. Beel, Minister of State, who has been appointed by Juliana to investigate which new cabinet formations can be made.
