Voor deze opdrachtdocumentaire (totale duur 46 min.) over de Limburgse staatsmijnen maakte Jules Stoop, directeur van Filmfabriek Hollandia, opnamen in de mijnen ‘Emma’, ‘Wilhelmina’ en ‘Hendrik’ te Heerlen. In het eerste deel van de film toont Stoop de ondergrondse werkzaamheden: het afdalen met de liften, het delven en afvoeren van kolen en ook een paardenstal op meer dan tweehonderd meter diepte, waar een hoefsmid aan het werk te zien is
